It all started on a rainy autumn day. Three friends, who will be known as the original trio: Pauline Chu, Samantha
Ipser, and Supriya Swaminathan, were very bored. One of the three came up with the idea of creating a club. So they went to
work on the basic things (name, purpose, etc.) Pauline had the idea of the Fun Club.
The three started making posters. But it took them a while to decide
how the poster would look. And because of a certain person, word got out that there was a club. Before all this, another group of friends, Michelle Luu, Samantha Ma, Abigail Wong, and
others were having a problem. A problem with a girl named Jamie Lee.
Samantha Ma
and Jamie were best friends since before preschool. But then, later on, she started getting mean and bossy and very full
of herself. In second grade, she wrote in Samantha's reminder book to 'Remember to listen to your boss!' Meaning her. After
that Samantha met up with Michelle in second grade summer school. Michelle was also a friend of Jamie (they had started being
friends in third grade, since they were in the same class.)
Michelle had become friends
with Samantha after summer school, and during third grade, Samantha, Michelle, Marisa and a few other friends of hers
played with Jamie. Then Michelle and Samantha started excluding Jamie in other summer schools, because Jamie treated
them like dirt. They would talk about Jamie and made up games that made fun of her. This Jamie frowned upon, but she didnt
do anything extreme like she would do in the future.
Then Samantha tried to play with someone else and not Jamie. She turned to Abigail and Jennifer (Jennifer
wasn't in the club yet.) But Jamie got very mad at her and never let her play with anyone else. Her friends had to play with
her. But Abigail, Jennifer, and Samantha grew closer after spending day care together.
In fourth grade, Abigail soon she grew to hate Jamie very much. They all grew tired of her bossy, unfair
ways, and decided to just leave Jamie. They found it was easier than it seemed and wished they had done it sooner.
So because of their
boredom, Michelle, Samantha, and Abigail joined the Fun Club. Jamie thought Abigail stole Samantha Ma away from her, and no
one could convince her otherwise. So Jamie hated the Fun Club after they joined, despite Pauline's offer of the branch of
friendliness.
Sometime in fourth grade, Jennifer Lee (no relation to Jamie) and Marisa Cheng joined the club.
After that the original trio were starting to befriend a future member, named Sindhu Ravikumar. Sindhu had originally
been friends with Danielle and Anju, people that Jamie claimed to be friends of hers. But one day, Nicole Leung, Jamie's
more-like-a-servant friend, framed Sindhu.
They were playing a ball game, and whoever was out had to hold Jamie's bracelet while she played. Nicole was
the one out. She stashed the bracelet in her pocket, forgetting about it. Later on Jamie realized that her bracelet was missing.
She demanded her bracelet from each of her friends. All said they did not know where it was. This included Nicole, since she
didn't want to get in any kind of trouble.
Nicole later gave Jamie the jewelry after telling her that she had found it inside Sindhu's backpack. Jamie then
turned everyone against Sindhu, forcing her to find new friends.
Sindhu eventually started hanging out with the original trio, and she was later invited into the club.
It was not all happiness from then on. No, then Jamie was starting to get bitter and vengeful.
Jamie had done many things that made her seem even lower and sneakier than politics, but as low as they were,
they could be quite funny. Though at that time, they made the members terribly angry. One of the most ridiculous things she
had done was digging through the members backpacks. During Day Care, Jamie's friends would ask to go to the bathroom. Then
they'd make a beeline to some of the Fun Club member's backpacks. They'd dig and dig until they found something useful.
How would that help them, no one knows.
Of course, the members in Day Care weren't stupid. They saw Jamie and her friends, and from then on, they locked
their backpacks and wore the keys around their necks.
Also,
Jamie had forced her friends to spy on the Fun Club members. They'd dig in the dirt and listen to the members talk. (But they
didnt realize that the club knew that they hated getting dirty.) During Day Care, they would "spy" on the members with binoculars,
which was very obvious. The members would wave and say "Hi!"
She started sending spies over to find out information about their club. They were terrible spies, as you have
read. Then they broke out our guns. (Figure of speech in case you were taking it literally.) They sent over Samantha Ipser
to spy on Jamie. She pretended she was their friend. It was like undercover. But it became too real.
Samantha
Ipser asked permission to leave the club. Her wish was granted. But when she asked to come back, they did not let her in.
She then became part of Jamie's group. While that was happening, the club was gaining another member. Her name was Anju Chatwani.
She used to be part of Jamie's group, but one day she came to them, and they let her in.
This
only made Jamie even angrier. She even tried to bribe some members, Samantha, Abigail, and Jennifer. She gave Samantha a note
saying "I'll give you five dollars if you promise not to play with Anju." Of course, the members refused right away.
Their exact quote was "It ain't worth it." Then Jamie lost her temper and called them "anteaters".
And
when Riane Johanssen was spying, the members in Day Care fell for the trick, for that was the first time. They let her in
on their secret and special game, though sadly Riane did not like them at all.
Also,
Day Care was a problem. Jennifer had tried to spy, and Danielle told them she hated the environment. Though Abigail and Samantha
remembered she had helped them pick up litter and water trees just a few days ago. They got in a fight but later made up.
Jamie also had a club, whose name would change frequently, but it was originally called the Friend Club, and
it would copy the Fun Club. Once Pauline invented the game Red Castle, and Jamie mimicked it, changing the name to Best Friends.
Samantha, Abigail and Michelle played Pick-up-Sticks with actual sticks, and Jamie used it. When they spotted the copycats,
Jamie said that they were playing Marshmallow, which the members pretended to believe. Then when they had a surprise birthday party for Samantha (who already knew about
it), Jamie planned a "surprise" birthday party for herself.
Of course, we will not portray the members as angels. One time, they tried to do something that would make Jamie
admit that she copied them. They made up a stupid game and deliberately wrote on binder paper explaining the games. They would
leave it in a backpack and accidentally
forget to lock them. Then, when Jamie stole it, they would go and say, "That's such a stupid game!" And Jamie would have been
"But YOU made it up!" That never worked though, to the members' dismay.
Finally, the president, Pauline, cracked under the pressure and stress and handed the office over to the vice
president, Supriya. (Please understand that fighting a mini war with lies and deceit can be highly chaotic for a fourth
grader.) During Supriya's time in office, the club was way too peaceful and inactive. It was so much that it became boring,
and the members voted Pauline back into the office.
After fourth grade, Jennifer announced she was moving to LA. Samantha organized a going-away party to wish her luck
and say good-bye.
They had an easier time in fifth grade. Now that Jamie and some of her friends left the school. Many of her friends
claimed they didn't like her anymore. Danielle even became some of the members friend, and afterward joined the club. She
became distant after she went to her first school dance though. But life continued to be a little easier.
Abigail moved to a different school, sadly and some members grew to dislike each other. They were distant
and cold when it came to the members in the other class. (Yes, being in different classes can cause a friendship to break.)
In fact, they were so far apart that the club disbanded, after taking a vote, of course.
Before the break-up, Christina Trieu was a member. She of course stopped socializing with
the members after the split, because she had found new friends that she seemed to fit in more with.
Then the club was reborn on March 20, 2002. Each member just had to attend the first meeting to be in the club
again. They gave Anju Chatwani several warnings but she refused to come. Michelle, Sindhu, and Samantha came to take her over
to the meeting. They told her she'd be kicked out, but she would rather talk to her other friends about, make-up, perhaps.
Sindhu and Michelle even tried to drag her to the meeting. Pauline and Supriya were waiting with their hope slowly dying.
And Samantha came to tell the news, causing their one last hope crumble into dust. And Anju refused to come, so they unanimously
agreed to kick her out.
During the summer of fifth grade, Pauline and Samantha got in a fight, and Pauline quit the club. Later, the
members tricked her back into the club by saying she was just going to try out their new test, (which you took to get in a
club.) But she wasn't just trying it out after all. She passed the test and agreed to join.
Then in sixth grade, things got rocky. Michelle left the school and many club members could not get in touch
with her. Because of this, the club loosened in more ways and the members weren't acting like the best friends they
used to be. The problem is still not completely resolved, but is slowly improving.
Then Pauline told the club that she didn't think Jennifer liked her very much. Sindhu and Supriya said that Jennifer
didn't seem to like them either. Samantha was angry when she heard this and so was Abigail, because they were both very good
friends with Jennifer. The members then voted if they should kick Jennifer out. Three voted yes (Sindhu, Supriya, and Pauline),
two voted no (Samantha and Abigail), and one was neutral (Michelle). Samantha and Abigail afterward broke the news to Jennifer.
Soon after that, members in the club invited Denzil Sikka to join the club, after seeing her sitting alone reading
a book. At first, Denzil seemed to be a great member. She was interested in the club and being friends with all the members.
Then, she began hanging out with new people, who the some members were also friends with. The members had no objections to
this. They just wanted Denzil to attend meetings. But she didn't, so she was expelled, by using the three-strikes rule, which
will be explained later.
Before the expulsion of Denzil, the club accepted a new member named Sai Boddupalli, the first and only boy to
be in the club.
Pauline was talking with Sai online, and Sai had asked to be the sports reporter for the Fun Club online newspaper,
the F.C. News. Pauline accepted, because the newspaper was in desperate need of a sports writer. After their little chat,
Pauline left for art class, and when she came back she was surprised to find that Sai had sent her many messages begging to
be in the club. Like any other person would be, Pauline was shocked that a boy like Sai would like to be in the club. She
told the other members and they were equally flabbergasted.
They discussed it in an online conference and decided to give Sai a chance for they did not want to seem to favor
girls. The members still wondered why he wanted to join, so they later asked him. He said, "Uh <nervous laugh> Cause
its cool?" An obvious lie, but the members accepted it and welcomed Sai warmly into the club. But there were problems brewing.
Sai kept forgetting the weekly meetings on Wednesdays and never knew what was going on. The members were not
happy. They walked up to Sai and told him how stupid and forgetful he was. Sai nodded his head every time but never changed.
So became the three strikes rule.
If a member missed three meetings in a row, then they would be expelled. This was what happened to Denzil. Of
course, this would not include the members not in the school, because the meetings were held in school.
Sai was about to get his
third strike, when Pauline
chickened out and told him that he had better come to the meeting or else he would be kicked out. And to keep it a secret,
she called him up and talked to him with Michelle. They talked for longer than expected. (Almost two hours.) And Pauline's
message had gotten through. Sai was still in the club. Things were looking all right again until Sai started slacking off
again. The members decided to kick him out, but
Abruptly during Christmas
break, Sai quit without
giving a reason, and he never told them why.
During this time, Supriya was president, because Pauline's resignation from the club automatically made her,
the previous vice president the stand-in for president, and when Pauline was back, things didn't change, even though Pauline
planned to ask to be president again. But seeing how happy Supriya was being president, Pauline decided Supriya was an able
leader, so she let the office be. Things continued but as Supriya was president, the get-togethers they planned never worked
out. They were forgotten about or never organized.
But a problem never settles as peacefully as that in the Fun
Club. Pauline later revealed to Samantha that she felt Supriya lacked president material, and Samantha told Pauline of her
same uneasiness. Sindhu then came over and asked what they were talking about. So, trusting Sindhu with their secrets, Pauline
and Samantha told Sindhu of their opinions. Sindhu also agreed. So they had all felt like Supriya was not able to be the leader
in the club.
With their power, they
knew they could overthrow Supriya, (Sindhu as the treasurer and Samantha the secretary.) They came up to Supriya and
told her their opinion and the evidence that went with it. Supriya made no attempt to fight back, and Pauline was voted back
into office. (It was not Pauline's choice to be voted back into office. She wanted to be president again, but she never said
so to put pressure onto the members.) So with that problem settled, the members turned their attention to the other two who
were feeling very left out after they left the school.
Although the members thought it was unfair for one of the left out members to say she was left out, for everytime
they talked online or tried to call her, she would talk about her new friends, or books, or something the other members knew
nothing about.
And because Abigail felt left out, she invited her friend from Collins (her school), Stephanie Wei, as revenge,
keeping it secret. Until that secret got out...
First, she told Samantha. Later, she told the news to Pauline, then
the rest of the club.
On March 23, they went to Samantha's house to celebrate their first-year anniversary. The club was actually reborn
on the 20th, but that was a school day. Only two members, Abigail and Stephanie did not come. Abigail had said she would
come, but she had to cancel at the last minute because of her piano test. (There, she saw Denzil!)
The members then noticed that Abigail had to turn down many get-togethers, monthly parties in which all the Fun
Club members would usually come for a birthday party or something else. Some members started to get worried that Abigail
was purposefully avoiding them. That of course was highly unfeasible, but the members could be very paranoid at times, especially
after being traumatized with the mini-war they had in fourth grade. It turned out that Abigail just couldn't come and would
never try to avoid the members.
Later Stephanie received an offline message reminding her to edit the sites, or she'd be kicked out. So she just
quit.
The members are slowly becoming closer, and the members from out of school aren't feeling as left out. With summer,
there'd be more get-togethers and less schoolwork to come in the way. And the members hope to be the best friends they originally
were.
Through thick and thin the club made it through. They had experienced a brief split up, but in the end, they
stuck together. Even though Jamie and the club might have been enemies, it is thanks to her that the club is what it is today.
She taught them to stick together, and showed them who their real friends were. For that reason, the club stuck together.
The club even made some completely
different people realize that they could be the best of friends. It gave the members a healthy interest and something to do.
It allowed them to have fun with their best friends and to give back to the community. And you can rest assure that the members
wouldn't have it any other way.

of happiness."
